On Nov. 19 and 20, the COPD team from the American Lung Association in Arizona visited the Sierra Vista Region Health Center Wellness Depot. It is a wonderful representation of what all community hospitals should emulate. The Wellness Depot is an extension of the community hospital to educate citizens of Sierra Vista about their health. The best part of the Wellness Depot is its location, the shopping mall. Everyone shops here. It is a high profile location with lots of traffic. You even reach the "mall walkers" which are a health conscious group of individuals out for daily exercise.
The ALAA offered FREE lung health screenings, spirometry testing, smokerlyzer (carbon monoxide breathalyzer) tests, and ASHLine Quit Fax Referrals. A COPD 101 Presentation was offered by local RT Director, Bob Shockley from SVRHC, on WCD. Jesus Duarte from the County Health Department provided information and a presentation on GASO. Results:
Lung Health Screenings – 32
Never Smoker - 14
Former Smoker – 14
Current Smoker - 4
ASHLine Referrals - 3
COPD-6 Tests - 23
Total Indicated Spirometry Tests - 12
Spirometry Tests "Normal" - 3
